I had two great rides on both horses today, then we came home and it all went to hell. There were deer in the small pasture eating off the round bale, and Collar went and chased them. One fawn couldn't figure out how to get out, and he kept running into the fence over and over again, then would fall sideways and flail while trying to get up. He couldn't.

So, for over twenty minutes, I sat in the snow with him, untangling him from the fence over and over again as he'd lay on his side and try to get up. I held his head up, whispering and petting and crying on him. He kept trying to get up so eventually I just covered his eyes and stroked him. He was breathing so hard.

When Fish & Wildlife finally came, the guy sent me to the house. As soon as I got in I started hyperventilating and sobbed in my bed for ten minutes until I heard the gunshot. Then I basically just started bawling. Mom said the guy told her the deer's back was broken. And all he did was run into page wire. Now I'm not allowed to go outside because there's blood from where the guy had to drag the fawn. God, I feel so sick and my eyes are almost swollen shut.
